On Tuesday, April 15th, OMG Midwest ‘sprung into health’ by throwing its first corporate health fair for employees. The fair encouraged employees to live happier, healthier lives by making more health conscious choices every day. Nearly 100 employees attended the fair and all services were provided free of charge.

From January to April, a health fair committee met one to two times a month to plan the details of the ‘Spring Into Health’ health fair. Several vendors were in attendance to provide information about fitness and gym memberships, proper nutrition and dietary supplements, medical and vocational case management, and physical therapy. There was also a nurse practitioner present to administer health screenings, which included BMI, blood sugar, and blood pressure tests. A Hy-Vee dietician informed employees how to make the most nutritious choices when grocery shopping. Employees found this station particularly interesting because they learned that different types of lettuce, canned and frozen vegetables, cereals, and nuts have different nutritional values. Perhaps the biggest hit of the day was the massage therapists.

Employees who visited certain booths were entered for prize drawings from the vendors. There were many great prizes, including free gym memberships, a barbeque basket, dietary and weight loss supplements, gas gift cards, and 30 minute to an hour massage sessions. OMG Midwest conducted a grand prize drawing for a FitBit. A healthy lunch of salmon filets, grilled chicken, vegetables, and fruit was catered by Hy-Vee for lunch.

Positive feedback was received about the day as a whole and many employees expressed their intention to set fitness or weight loss goals, using what they learned during the fair to help them reach these goals. OMG Midwest plans to make the health fair an annual event.
